The Story

This documentary tells the story of the Oakland Athletics and their fans’ bold stand against the team’s relocation to Las Vegas. What is known as the ‘reverse boycott’ began on June 13, 2023 at a game between the Athletics and Rays. It quickly gained momentum, spreading nationwide and even globally, as fans from all teams came together as a united force, taking a stand and raising their voices with the infamous chant “Sell The Team.”

GOAL 1:

We are crafting a 6-10 min documentary that covers all the key information that is important to why the A’s should remain in Oakland.

This film will then be sent to each of the MLB Owners prompting them to vote NO on relocation of the A’s to Las Vegas.

In helping to spread the word, three versions have been released.

  • Initial Teaser
  • All-Star game release (showed fans what they could make happen by participating in the protest at the All-Star Game)
  • Unite The Bay version (explaining what to do for the 5th inning protest so that players would know what to do during the game.)

reach out if you want a version for the Reverse Boycott Display

GOAL 2:

As this story developed it became more than just one game of a protest but turned into a summer of protests that spanned up and down the west coast.  This was no longer a local problem but something that affected the entire baseball nation, spanning from the US to Australia, the Philippines, and the UK.

Our MLB Owner’s version is going to become our sizzle or proof of concept. We will put together a pitch deck and financing plan and begin to see what partners we can connect with to get an even further reach.   This story is about the fans and the communities in and around Oakland, providing the biggest platform for their stories to be heard is our goal with this project along side keeping the A’s rooted in Oakland.

Hard/Time Costs

This project started as an internal passion project as Jared (one of the founders) is a lifelong A’s fan.  The thought was “if it can do something to help the A’s stay in Oakland then why not?”

The project has quickly gained traction and we have been able to interview some high profile individuals close to the stadium deal in Oakland.

In creating the documentary it has required a lot of travel and time in order to put it together,  all expense being out of pocket.

If you would like to contribute for gas, tolls, parking, and time.  It would be greatly appreciated.  I will keep expenses documented and everything transparent – besides, this is a story by the fans.

Potential Legal Fees

As the size of this project grows along with it come many legal issues that require lawyers and E&O Insurance (Errors & Omissions).  All of this gets rather pricey but protects the project against legal disputes.

In addition if we want to properly license MLB footage to expand its potential reach a hefty dollar amount is attached to that.  These are all costs that could arise if the project grows into something beyond just a video for YouTube or would protect against any legal issues that may arise.

    1. If you have any questions or comments this is a great place to leave them. Here I’ll be able to better filter through suggestions and ideas or even answer questions.

      1. I have some footage of the ballpark from before the gate’s actually opened. I actually had a cool VIP experience of June 13 as I had Batting practice passes gifted to me and my friend. They were gifted to me from an Oakland A’s coach in the organization I can tell you everything about it and how it happened if you want to email me. Definitely a funny story, with some emotion to it as well.

        1. That could be really cool. If you fill out the footage submission form I can get you all set up to submit your footage. There are some releases that need to be filled out that give permission to use your clips along with additional contact info. Look forward to hearing the story.

    2. Jared – Thank you for working incredibly hard to make this doc happen. I really believe it will capture a moment in time that future generations will talk about! I was at the reverse boycott with my Dad and my two sons, 3 generations or die-hard A’s fans! Your work is for us!

    3. My sons 8th Birthday party is June 13. We had it at the game. He will forever have an awesome memory of loyal Oakland fans.
